The answer is yes – buying edibles online is now easier than ever (for those who live in States that have legalized cannabis products with less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC in dry weight). But before you dive headfirst into the wild world of online edible retailers, here are a few things to know. This guide will explain how to order edibles online without losing your mind (or your money). So sit back, relax, and get ready to satisfy your sweet tooth.

**Keep in mind that this guide is put together for those who live in States that follow the 2018 Federal Farm Bill. Check your local laws for more information.

What to Look For in a Vendor When Buying Edibles

Not all sellers are created equal. Keep an eye out for these red flags from edible merchants in your search for the best place to buy edibles.

Third Party Testing

Third-party testing means an independent lab, unaffiliated with the seller, has tested the products based on: serving size, quality, and content. This lab should be unbiased and reputable.

All of Mood’s edibles are third-party tested in DEA-certified labs so you can feel confident when buying edibles.

Legal Assurances

Trustworthy sellers care about their customers’ legal concerns and will provide sound reassurance. When deciding where to get edibles, consider this fact. Do they address the legality of their product on their site?

Discreet Packaging

Do you really want your nosy neighbor or mother-in-law to know about your latest purchase? Not necessarily. With discreet packaging, you can rest easy knowing that your order will arrive incognito, with no obvious signs that you’re buying edibles online.

Sourcing and Growing Information

When deciding where to get edibles, you’ll want to see where the cannabis or hemp came from. At Mood, our products come from long-standing, trusted farmers using sustainable agricultural practices.

Does their website answer: Where does the seller get their raw product? Are their materials and ingredients vegan, non-GMO, or organic?

Plenty of Positive Reviews

Good reviews mean the cannabis community enjoys and recommends the product. Why guess when you can read what others have to say about it? Most reliable sellers allow customers to order edibles online, review them, and encourage them to share positive reviews with a friend!

Types of Edibles Available Online

Before ordering edibles online, check up on your state’s allowances. The legal status of hemp and cannabis products vary across the U.S. In general, you can choose between Delta 8, Delta 9, and CBD products.

Delta 8 Infused

Delta 8 is a different form of THC that begets a less intense but just as fun high. Delta 8 edibles have a different legal status than D9 ones in many states, so read your local laws before buying edibles.

Here are a few Mood favorites!

Micro-Dose Delta-8 THC Gummies

Now that you’ve answered whether you can buy THC gummies online, let’s look at some of the best.

The Micro-Dose Delta-8 THC Gummies contain 1mg of water-soluble D8 THC, which is far more bioavailable than traditional molecules. Compare these gems to an old fashioned gummy with 4-5mg of THC.

50mg Delta 8 Gummies

Each of our 50mg Delta 8 Gummies has 50mg of D8 and 50mg of CBD for a full-body stellar experience. These treats offer a slew of positive feedback – just check out MOOD order edibles online reviews.

25mg Delta 8 THC Gummies

All experience levels should consider the 25mg Delta 8 THC Gummies when planning on purchasing edibles. They have 25mg of Delta 8 THC and 25mg of CBD, providing a clean, relaxing adventure.

Delta 9 Infused

Delta 9 is the most common THC form found in hemp plants and is what typically comes to mind when thinking of the trippy molecule. D9 creates a more intense, psychoactive high, but is more heavily regulated than the former. You’ll run into both while buying edibles, so pay attention to labels.

15mg Delta 9 THC Gummies

Look no further than the 15mg Delta 9 THC Gummies if you’re seeking a well-balanced, relaxing buzz. Each gummy has 15mg of Delta-9 THC and 15mg of CBD, a great serving size for beginners and experts alike.

Understanding Legality: Make Sure You’re Purchasing Edibles Legally

Can you buy edibles online in your state?

Pretty much every state has defined its own legal code and classification for the various forms of THC and CBD. Check your state guidelines before purchasing.

The locations we can deliver to allow D8 and D9 with up to 0.3% Delta 9 THC based on dry weight. Once at checkout with MOOD, your order will not go through if the product you’ve chosen is illegal in your state.

State vs Federal Laws: Where Can You Buy Edibles Legally?

Even though the 2018 Farm Bill legalized 0.3% delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis – your state makes the last call. Do your homework and check your state laws to find out where you can buy edibles legally.

2018 Farm Bill Contribution

This brings us to the 2018 Farm Bill. This landmark bill classifies hemp as a cannabis plant containing 0.3% or less of Delta 9 THC on a dry weight basis, as legal. Certain hemp-derived products containing less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis are lawful on the federal level. Please check your local laws regarding state-specific rules regarding hemp-derived products.

The law doesn’t mention Delta 8, so products can have a large amount of D8 and still be unregulated. So, part of how to order edibles is realizing how your products relate to this bill.

2023 Legal Update: Can You Order Edibles in Your State?

2018 was a long time ago. Since then, plenty of states have been quick to address this loophole in the bill. As of February 2023, the Farm Bill is still in effect, however, state-to-state restrictions vary greatly. If you’re wondering whether you can order edibles in your state, you’ll have to check your local government website for updates.

How Much Edibles Can You Buy?

Dispensaries have purchase limits based on:

  • Type of product (flower, edible, concentrate…)
  • State
  • Medical vs Recreational purchaser

In most states, purchase limits are the same as possession limits, meaning you can’t buy more than you’re allowed to carry around. When buying edibles online, take note of your state’s purchase limits.

Before Placing Your Orders

Now that you have the tools and knowledge to safely purchase your edibles, let’s get to the fun part. We’re about to dive into a treasure trove of tips and tricks that’ll take your buzz to the next level and make sure your good times keep rolling.

Understanding Serving Size Recommendations

As a beginner, figuring out how much THC you can take without overdoing it can be a fine line. Before choosing a serving size, define your purpose. Are you seeking a mild high or something more intense? Is it morning or night? Equally important when deciding where to order edibles online is the seller’s mg label. Many edibles contain several servings — how many ways should yours be split?

buying edibles

How to Calculate Your Serving Size

Mood’s edibles are clearly labeled with the quantity of THC or CBD on the packaging. For instance, by buying edibles with 40mg of THC, you can theoretically cut them into 4 equally-sized pieces of 10mg each. 10mg of THC generally begets a mild, relaxing high.

It’s widely recommended to take a small serving first with edibles. They tend to hit harder than the traditional smoking method.

What to Do if You Take Too Much THC

Since you’re purchasing edibles, having some tools up your sleeve can take the “greening out” experience from unpleasant to enjoyable.

  • Find distractions like crafting or watch a hilarious comedy. Taking your mind off of unwanted symptoms can help time pass.
  • Going for a calming walk can help improve your mood and promote deeper breathing.
  • Drink water and eat a snack (non-infused, of course).
  • Call a person you trust to chat with.

Never Start with a Full Serving

You’ve probably seen the memes of crazy scenes labeled “when the edible hits” and wondered what they mean. Edibles are a very different experience from smoking or vaping, as you’ll soon discover.

Taking an entire edible can lead to an overwhelming, full-body experience. Start with a smaller serving size and see how you feel after 3 hours or so.

Be in Good Company

Buying edibles is exciting, and when shared with your comrades-in-arms, the whole experience is elevated. A high is heavily dependent on who you’re with and what you’re doing. Map out an entertaining agenda and ensure that a seasoned ally is present to assist with any weird thoughts.

How Long Do Edibles Last?

The intoxicating effects of edibles can kick in after 30 minutes or 3 hours with a typical duration of 4-5 hours total. So when asking how long do edibles last, there’s a huge range that can span even 12 hours in some cases. It depends on potency and your metabolism. This is not medical advice, take any information you read online about how long edibles last with a grain of salt – unless backed by scientific and medical proofs. Your experience may greatly differ – so take head and be cautious in your approach.

Why Don’t I Feel High From Edibles?

For those of you wondering why don’t edibles get me high, consider these possibilities:

  • Have you formed a THC tolerance? Consider taking a T-break.
  • Did you wait for the recommended 3 hours? If so, you might consider upping your serving size next time.
  • Did you eat a large meal beforehand? It might be masking your edible’s effects.

Some people’s livers digest THC in a way that changes its composition, rendering it ineffective. Consider fast-acting edibles that skip the liver digestion step altogether. This new technology addresses how to get edibles to hit faster and with a head high rather than body high. Consult a physician for best results and caution.

Prioritize Safety and Quality

Do edibles expire? Edibles are perishable and can go bad, just like any food. Check the product’s shelf life to ensure it’s not past its expiration date. Choose a reputable supplier who adheres to the highest production and regulatory standards when deciding where to order edibles online. Don’t settle for anything less than the crème de la crème of edibles.

Fast Acting Edibles: The Future of Cannabis Consumption?

Edibles are a fun and lung-safe alternative to smoking, but the road to enjoyment isn’t quite as smooth. If you’ve found yourself waiting and waiting for your edible to kick in and feeling underwhelmed (or completely overwhelmed) when it finally hits, you aren’t alone. The process has never been flawless – until now with fast acting edibles.

Trusted dispensaries like Mood have nearly perfected the edible process, simplifying serving size and timing prediction. With new technological innovations, fast acting edibles are changing the game in cannabis.

But how do fast acting edibles work, and what’s all the hype around them? Let’s get into it.

What are Fast Acting Edibles?

The question “can edibles hit instantly” has just recently been answered with a yes. Scientists have finally found a way to change the way THC is absorbed in our metabolic pathways.

While traditional edibles can take hours to kick in and linger for up to 8 hours, these new fast acting edibles have an onset time of 10-15 minutes and last up to three hours. When compared to smoking, fast acting edibles are similar in onset timing, duration, and experience.

how do edibles work

How do Edibles Work?

It typically goes like this: you buy edibles online, plan a day for chilling and relaxing, and take your edibles. After a few minutes, the cannabinoids travel to the stomach and then the liver to be processed before moving to the bloodstream and brain where you can actually feel them begin to work.

Traditional edibles undergo this entire process, which is why they take so long to kick in and why the high is felt throughout the entire body and not just the mind.

Smoking Vs. First-Pass Metabolism

Alternatively, when you smoke cannabis, it travels directly from the lungs to the bloodstream in its original THC form, causing a light and cerebral head-high that usually lasts 1-4 hours max.

Notice anything different here? During first-pass metabolism, the liver is bypassed. But what happens in the liver that’s so significant? The liver converts THC into 11-Hydroxy-THC, which is what causes that long-lasting body high associated with edibles. When the edible hits, it’s an intense, long-lasting, full-body experience.

So if the high is different, what draws people to edibles? They are:

  • Discreet
  • Easier to measure serving size
  • Simple to use (no paraphernalia required)
  • Lung-safe

Fast acting edibles skip first-pass metabolism, combining the speedy qualities of inhaled THC with the convenience of an edible!

how do edibles work

The Science Behind Fast Acting Edibles

Scientists worked long and hard to learn and understand the endocannabinoid system and how it relates to digestion. Fast acting THC works in a few ways: by surpassing the liver during digestion, making it smaller and faster to digest, and increasing bioavailability.

Nano-Emulsification

An emulsion is a mixture of two or more incompatible liquids, such as oil and water, that are held together by an emulsifying agent to form a stable, homogenous solution. This improves the transportation of bioactive substances that are soluble in oil (lipophilic) by causing them to act similarly to substances that are soluble in water (hydrophilic).

Nano-emulsification simply means doing this mixing on a nano (one billionth) level. The body needs to emulsify THC to digest it; doing so beforehand is an essential factor in speeding up onset time. Being fused to water molecules, nano-emulsified THC behaves like water in the digestive system, getting processed faster than its large, oil-only counterparts.

Nano-THC: A Closer Look at Cannabis

When nanotech cannabis companies utilize this technology, they can achieve the same quality products, while using far less raw product, saving money that can be spent on further research and development! For example, scientists have already used THC nanoparticle science to increase effectiveness of topical products such as CBD creams and lotions.

Nano-Emulsion in Medicine

Nano-emulsion may be new to the cannabis community, but doctors in the pharmaceutical world paved the way for the technology with nano-emulsified molecules. Before fast edibles, there were fast-acting drugs and bioavailable vitamin supplements. We’ve taken it a step further, making THC nanoparticles more pleasing in texture and taste than ever before.

Micro-Encapsulation

During microencapsulation, nano-particles are enclosed in a useful protective layer to control some aspects of digestion. In medicine, such layers determine what area of the body the drug targets and how and when it’s released. For fast acting THC, the nano-particles are enclosed in a water-based formula to improve bioavailability and skip first-pass metabolism. This is what makes them so fast-acting and efficient!

Bypassing the Liver

All of this allows the THC to bypass the liver, preventing the THC from converting into 11-Hydroxy-THC. Remember, 11-Hydroxy-THC is stronger than Delta-8 or Delta-9 THC and produces the “body high” associated with edibles.

Nano-emulsified THC is readily absorbable via the mouth, esophagus, and stomach, and enters the bloodstream directly, avoiding the long and inefficient digestion process. This is why we can finally answer yes when asked, “can you feel edibles immediately?”

What Took So Long?

If scientists have been homogenizing molecules for nearly a century, why is the THC world just now taking advantage?

For years, cannabis was highly regulated and nearly impossible to experiment with, which stunted innovation. When laws relaxed, the industry focused on fine-tuning strains, potency, and flavor profiles to create enjoyable consumer products. First released in 2017, Nano-THC is the next step in innovation, and far from the last.

The Difference Between Traditional and Fast Acting Edibles

Now that you understand the science behind fast-acting edibles, let’s take a closer look at how they differ from traditional edibles. As a consumer, you should know that fast-acting isn’t the only new quality.

How Long Does It Take for Edibles to Settle In

How long does it take for edibles to hit?

Traditional edibles take anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours to take effect because of the drawn-out digestion process. This leaves users waiting and waiting, unsure and confused about what to expect. Fast-acting edibles start working in just 5 to 15 minutes.

How long do edibles last?

Highs from traditional edibles can last anywhere from 4-10 hours. Rapid onset edibles last 1-3 hours, similar to the duration after smoking. Note that these are estimates, and timing varies from person to person. Check with your physician before making any assumptions about serving size and duration.*

fast acting gummies

How They’re Digested

To hammer it in:

Fast acting edibles skip liver digestion, meaning THC in its original form is directly absorbed into the bloodstream after ingestion. Absorption takes place in the mouth, throat, and stomach.

We’ve already explained the digestion of traditional edibles that involve 11-Hydroxy-THC, the reason edibles hit “harder.”

How They Make You Feel

In addition to timing, old-fashioned edibles and nano-edibles produce differing highs. Traditional edibles can take hours to set in, but when the edible hits, it’s an all-over “body high” that’s more intoxicating and psychoactive. Fast-acting edibles produce a cerebral high, concentrated in the mind.

*Serving size and individual metabolism will affect the THC experience, so note that while these are popular experiences, you may encounter different anecdotes if you ask around.

How They Taste

Nano-emulsification increases the surface area of the molecules, changing the flavor profile of edibles. You may notice a bitter flavor, stronger now because you’re absorbing THC in your mouth instead of liver. This is different from the funky cannabis taste sometimes noticeable in traditional edibles.

How They’re Produced

Traditionally, THC edibles are made by infusing a fat or oil-based substance with THC extract, which can be derived from cannabis plants or concentrates. The treats are then cooked, tested, and served.

Nano edibles undergo nanoemulsion and microencapsulation before being fused with cooking oil.

Benefits of Fast Acting Edibles: What’s the Big Deal?

The benefits of fast-acting edibles are exciting, but when would you want to take advantage of them? What scenarios cater toward traditional edibles versus the fastest edibles?

Shorter Waiting Period

We don’t always have an entire day to dedicate to an edible experience. A shorter edible kick-in time means the experience begins in just a few minutes. Say goodbye to drawn-out anticipation and wonder if you took the proper serving size.

*Remember: waiting periods vary from person to person. There is no sure-fire way to predict precise onset times.

Shorter Duration

Unlike traditional edibles that can linger all day, fast acting edibles last roughly 2 hours so you can have a fun high and keep it moving. Enjoy the edible’s experience and get on with your day!

*Again, duration depends on factors like metabolism and body composition. Speak with a physician if you have any concerns.

Control Over Your High

An issue with traditional edibles is that you have to wait 3 hours to know if you took the right serving size. There’s no scaling because taking more would never enhance your high, just make it last incredibly long. When the effects set in quickly, it’s simpler to know whether or not you want to take a nibble more to enhance your edible peak.

*This does not substitute professional medical advice or consultations with healthcare professionals.

How long do edibles last

Longer Shelf Life

We get asked all the time: do edibles expire?

Traditional edibles last as long as their non-infused counterparts. Nano-emulsions provide a protective lipid barrier against oxygen, extending the shelf life of nano edibles. This is based on experience and theory but isn’t guaranteed or tested in a controlled setting. Speak to a nutritionist to discuss the details!

More Bang for Your Buck

Because of the heightened bioavailability of THC, the body digests more and wastes less. This means you absorb more of what you paid for! Creators are able to use less THC during production because the new molecules are so effective, leading to lower costs and lower pricing.

Get More Out of Your Day

Rapid onset edibles last about 2 hours, whereas traditional edibles can take that long to kick in and last up to 10 hours with residual effects. While this enduring high is part of the beloved edible’s experience, it doesn’t have to mean dedicating an entire day to it.

With fast-acting edibles, you don’t have to settle: you get the convenience of edibles without sacrificing so much time.

Don’t Have Them? Here’s How to Make Edibles Hit Faster

Excited to hear the news but don’t have any fast acting edibles on deck? Here are a few tips for how to make edibles hit faster and stronger. In the meantime, learn how to buy edibles online so you can try nano-THC for yourself!

Caffeine

Caffeine and cannabis may seem like an unlikely duo, but drinking coffee or tea can speed up your edible peak. Low levels of caffeine stimulate metabolism and digestion, meaning you’ll process the edible faster. That said, there’s no saying whether this allows the body the time it needs to process all of the THC. Keep that in mind.

Empty Stomach

Eating or drinking anything on an empty stomach amplifies its effects, intoxicating or not. If you don’t have fast acting edibles, eating regular edibles on an empty stomach makes it more likely they’ll hit faster and harder. Use with caution, though. We don’t recommend this to everyone as it can lead to a higher than intended high, which can be overwhelming.

Metabolism

It’s generally accepted that faster metabolism results in a faster edible onset time because the body is processing THC quicker. Here are some ways to speed up your metabolism overall:

  • Stay active
  • Eat a well-balanced diet with plenty of whole grains, vegetables, and fruit
  • Get a good night’s sleep regularly

*Consult with your doctor before making any changes to your healthcare routines.

The Sublingual Trick

You’ve probably heard that sublingual administration supplies compounds directly into the bloodstream. Tinctures and oil droppers often direct users to hold the product under their tongue for about a minute before swallowing.

If you don’t have fast acting edibles, chew your edibles and let it touch the underside of your tongue for a quickening boost.

Nano THC: The Next Big Innovation

Nanotechnology has opened the doors to innovation for the cannabis industry. With thousands of strain variations, product options, and now nano-edibles, connoisseurs continue to blow us away with the possibilities they uncover.

Fast acting edibles give THC-lovers the choice between traditional and convenient. If you’re ready to enter the world of nano-THC, check out Mood’s edible offerings and get started!

The 420 Friendly Guide to Celebrate The Green Holiday

Recent voting cycles have opened up a world of possibilities for the marijuana and cannabis communities. As legality becomes more widespread, weed smokers are creating 420 friendly spaces for themselves, but what does it mean and why is it called that?

What was once a discreet code-word to attract and identify other cannabis user comrades is now a marketing point for spaces that accept and encourage the use of cannabis. This article will take a look at such places and give you the tools you need to have the perfect 420 friendly time.

WHAT’S 4/20?

So, what does 420 friendly mean? After digging into this ourselves, we discovered the origin stories of the 420 meaning.

Legend has it that a group of high schoolers in 1970s California started the saying “420” because 4:20 was their designated time to meet after school and smoke every day. The term stuck, and now April 20th AKA 4/20 is the worldwide appointed holiday to celebrate marijuana.

WHAT IS 420 FRIENDLY?

This brings us to the meaning of 420 friendly.

Describing someone as 420 friendly means they’re open to marijuana use and may even facilitate it. It’s worth noting that marijuana use is not legal everywhere, so this code word is meant to distinguish those who accept it and those who don’t – assuming the latter don’t know the term’s meaning.

People who use cannabis enjoy getting high and hanging out, but they understand others may or may not be into it. It’s basically a subtle way to say “we’re okay with weed here” so other people can make a decision on whether they want to join in the space.

what is 420 friendly
From a business perspective, mentioning they’re ‘420 friendly‘ means you can likely smoke or consume cannabis on the premisis – in some cases they may even sell cannabis products.

So let’s dive into everything you need to know about having a friendly 420 celebration!

BEST “420-FRIENDLY” PRACTICES

As experienced tokers will tell you, practicing 420 responsibly will ensure everyone has a good time. Consider these tips for a stress-free 420 celebration.

Familiarize Yourself with State Laws

Cannabis laws are ever changing; make sure you’re up to date on the current regulations of your destination. Although the 2018 Farm Bill legalized cannabis with less than .3% Delta 9 THC on a dry weight basis, laws vary state-to-state.

Check your state laws before flying with edibles (and flower). Never try to conceal the contents of your packaging – stay within the laws of your State. For those flying out and to States where legal, we brand our products with QR codes that lead you straight to our Certificates of Analysis – that way, contents of your package are clearly visible to TSA personnel.

But why risk it? Delivery services like Mood allow you to embrace the meaning of 420 friendly without worrying that you’re on the wrong side of the law.

Only Buy from Trusted Vendors

A trusted seller knows the source and potency of their product. A huge red flag is when a vendor isn’t sure about strain, testing methods, origin, or cannabinoid profile. Mood takes copious safety precautions with every batch. Our plants are grown by trusted organic farmers and third-party tested for quality and content.

Pick a Strain

Know the vibe associated with your bud. Sativas make you focused, energized, social, and chatty. Pair it with a hands-on activity like camping, game night, or a concert. Indicas that make you feel chill and calm, are better suited for movie nights, painting, or puzzles. Hybrids provide the best of both worlds, and the experience might vary from person to person.

Decide on a Serving Size

If you’re going to be out and about at a 420 friendly affair, take a lower dose from 5-15mg. Staying home? You might feel comfortable taking a bit more.

Mood’s products are securely measured for you, so everyone knows what to expect. Refer to our THC mg dosage chart to calculate your desired amount.*

*Statements in the dosage chart have not been made or evaluated by a licensed physician. Statements offered on this website have not been evaluated by the FDA and the products offered on the site are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate, or prevent any disease and/or affect any structure or function of the human body.

Happy 420 Meaning, 420 Quotes, & Everything You Need to Know

Ah, 4/20 – a day where the air is filled with the sweet scent of…well, you know. It’s a time when friends gather, giggles ensue, and munchies are consumed by the pound. But why 420? Where did this holiday come from, and why is it so beloved? Let’s take a closer look at the history and culture surrounding this hazy holiday on April 20th. This article will answer questions like what is 420, and what does happy 420 mean?

WHERE DID 420 COME FROM?

In the early 1970s, the mysterious 420 began circulating in the cannabis community. From sly comments like, “I’m going for a walk at 4:20 if anyone wants to join,” to 420 flags waving at concerts, those who knew, knew and those who didn’t, didn’t.

It all started with a group of SoCal high schoolers called the Waldos. In 1971, they partook a treasure hunt for a lost marijuana plant. Every day after school they met up at 4:20, smoked a bit, and continued the search. One of the Waldos had a friend in the Grateful Dead, and the secret phrase spread like wildfire.

So what does 420 stand for? Previously with the Waldos, 420 meant a 4:20 pm time stamp for cannabis consumption.

420 meaning

PREVIOUS MYTHS

Up until 1998 when theories about the origin of 420 met head to head, myths ran rampant. These theories were pretty strong if you ask us, but most myths were debunked once the Waldo Crew set the record straight.

A Police Code for Cannabis-Related Offenses

Some believed 420 was the police radio code used when marijuana smokers had been caught. This seems believable but doesn’t hold up to even minimal investigation.

Some departments have said 420 implies trespassing in progress. In Vegas, it’s used for homicide calls. After all, who would pick a secret word that literally alerts the police of your illegal activities at the time?

The Famous Bob Dylan Song

Bob Dylan’s 1966 song “Rainy Day Woman #12 & 35” was another strong contender. After all, the song repeats, “everybody must get stoned,” and 12 x 35 = 420. However, the song was released before any mentionings of 420, so could he be referring to it? He also never commented on whether the song was implying the meaning of 420.

weed day 2023

420 Compounds Found in Marijuana?

At one point, scientists believed there were 420 compounds in the cannabis plant. We can see how this was a contender for the origin of 420, however, there’s no evidence that the number 420 was ever the reported number of chemicals. We now know that there are more than 500 compounds found in the plant!

The Most Likely Explanation: The Waldo’s

High Times magazine started using the term in 1991 after hearing it at a Grateful Dead concert. They falsely reported the police theory as its inception. The Waldos actually showed dated letters proving their early use of the term, and Grateful Dead members substantiated that it started circulating when Waldos members entered the picture.

So, we have the Waldos and the Deadheads to thank for our beloved 420 holiday.

WHY IS 420 ASSOCIATED WITH WEED?

Over decades, the high school secret spread to a globally recognized holiday in which the 420 meaning is embraced worldwide. So why is 420 weed day? Because some close friends and a tight-knit community had a good sense of humor and were smart enough to be discreet.

A DAY, TIME, AND LIFESTYLE

What was once a strategic code word used to prevent getting caught developed into a symbol of the counterculture and eventually an unofficial holiday. People smoke weed at 4:20 pm, celebrate on April 20th, and unabashedly wave 420 friendly flags at their establishments. This cultural slang for marijuana consumption is hardly a secret anymore, but the 420 meaning is still used as a marker of camaraderie.

Channels include VH1, Comedy Central, FXX, Viceland, and Fuse.

LEGALIZATION IS CHANGING THE 4/20 TRADITION

What was once a secret counterculture is now a public celebratory display in many states. With the rise of dispensaries and cannabis investors, 4/20 is nearing the status of a commercialized holiday like St. Patricks Day for the alcohol industry and Christmas for big-box stores.

The Commercialization of 420

Because the taboo is lifting and there’s a market to capture, brands are capitalizing on the 420 meaning in their marketing campaigns. Their copywriting is pretty clever if you ask us.

Lyft’s discounted rides for $4.20

Lyft partners with several municipal traffic departments to keep impaired drivers off the streets on 4/20. In Massachusetts, Los Angeles, and Denver, to mention a few, citizens can use a promo code for a $4.20 Lyft ride!

Top songs include Cypress Hill’s Hits From the Bong, Snoop Dogg’s Gin and Juice, and Sublime’s Smoke Two Joints.

Jack in the Box Smoothies

One 4/20, Jack in the Box released a Pineapple Express smoothie flavor, a not-so-subtle allusion to weed. Pineapple Express is a cannabis strain as well as a popular stoner movie. All smoothies are priced at $4.20 on this day, and they vow to plant a tree for every Pineapple Express smoothie ordered in honor of Earth day being on 4/22.

Bark Box

In 2021, the popular dog toy subscription service released a 4/20-themed box that became so popular, it’s now a yearly tradition. The plush bongs, joints, and gummies go for over $200 on eBay and go out-of-stock every year!

DON’T MISS THESE GLOBAL 4/20 CELEBRATIONS

So, when is 420 celebrated worldwide?
Around the world, cannabis lovers gather to celebrate and learn about the beloved plant. Not all festivals are on April 20th; assuming community members want to attend more than one event, they fall on different days, but all celebrate the 4/20 spirit.

Spannabis

Established in 2002, Spannabis occurs in Barcelona, Spain each March. This weed extravaganza is one of the largest in the world, with over 25,00 visitors in attendance in 2019. You’ll find growers, retailers, and educational booths illustrating why 420 is more than a synonym for weed.

420 Hemp Fest

Located in Milan, Italy, the 420 Hemp Fest is a 10,000 sq ft festival featuring growers, vendors, and over 170 booths. This international expo gives creators and enthusiasts a place to meet and share knowledge of cannabis.

4/20 meaning

The Cannabis Cup

Everything goes in Amsterdam, making it a fitting location for the annual Cannabis Cup. Representing the true meaning of 420, this expo hosts educational seminars, networking opportunities, cannabis competitions, and fun activities. Past competition judges include Snoop Dogg, Damian Marley, Tommy Chong, and Method Man.

NYC Cannabis Parade

The New York City Cannabis Parade & Rally (NYCCPR) is among the longest-running marijuana legalization events in the world. Involving numerous high-bar speakers, this event is ideal for community members who believe no one should be in jail for using marijuana.

420 QUOTES & POP CULTURE REFERENCES

There are a handful of references to the 420 holiday within pop culture that every member of the cannabis community should know. These moments made the weed world what it is today and introduced marijuana into mainstream conversations.

TV & Movies

Cinema plays a huge role in uniting and entertaining the cannabis community, with representations of the counterculture going back decades. Here are the most influential/iconic 420 references that paved the way and changed the game.

Half Baked

The stoner comedy film Half Baked revolves around a group of friends who sell marijuana to raise bail money for a friend who is arrested for feeding a diabetic police horse junk food on 4/20. Only a true stoner could wrap their head around this plot, thus why it’s one of the ultimate pot movies and a classic take on the 4/20 meaning.

Dazed and Confused

Dazed and Confused is a 1993 movie directed by Richard Linklater. It takes place on the last day of school in 1976 and features many scenes of characters smoking weed and celebrating 4/20. The stoner classic has a whopping 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, and while watching, viewers feel like they’re in some time capsule smoking pot with friends in another era.

Cheech and Chong

Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong represented the marijuana community for a long time and were arguably the first cannabis “personalities.” The comedy duo known as Cheech and Chong made a series of films in the 1970s and 80s that often featured marijuana use and references to 4/20. Top hits include Up in Smoke and Cheech & Chongs Next Movie.

That 70's show

That 70s Show

The 70s Show was actually filmed in the late 90s and features big names like Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, and *drumroll please* Tommy Chong. The show’s hallmark scene is the daily 4:20 smoke circle in which the characters smoke weed in the basement while discussing various topics.

Pineapple Express

The newest on the list, Pineapple Express, is another stoner comedy that takes place on 4/20 and features a plot centered around a rare strain of marijuana. Starring Seth Rogan and James Franco, two modern-day cannabis icons, this movie is hilarious, smart, and a stellar representation of the 4/20 meaning.

The Office

This isn’t so much an iconic moment but a representation of how 420 is becoming more widely known. In season 5, episode 13 of the Office, Dwight finds a bag of marijuana in the parking lot and marks the time he found it as 4:20.

Our Favorite 420 Quotes

  • “If you ever miss 4:20, just wait until 4:22. Because 4:22 is 4:20, too.” – Unknown
  • “I got 99 problems and 420 solutions.” — Unknown
  • “You can’t buy happiness but you can smoke weed, and that’s pretty close!” — Unknown
  • “Some of my finest hours have been spent on my back veranda, smoking hemp and observing as far as my eye can see.” – Thomas Jefferson.

420 in Music

Musicians embrace the 4/20 lifestyle and proudly write songs about their involvement. Here are a few examples:

  • Snoop Dogg’s 420
  • Wiz Khalifa’s 420 Freestyle
  • Afroman’s Because I Got High (this one doesn’t outright say 420, but it’s known as a 4/20 anthem for smokers)
  • Kid Cudi’s Marijuana

Ben & Jerry’s Activism

Ben & Jerry’s are long-time proponents of legalization. With ice cream flavors like Half Baked, Cherry Garcia, and Phish Food (a shout-out to the rock band Phish), it’s no secret that brand members are part of the 420 community. They’re loud and proud about their support for legalization and believe the meaning of 420 includes fair treatment for all groups.

420 in Legislation

Lawmakers use the 4/20 code word to name their legalization bills as a way to increase awareness. Examples include the famous 420 Marijuana bill of 2019, Act H.R.420 pushing for regulation similar to that of alcohol, and the mayor of Washington D.C. granting a 420 license plate to Adam Eidinger, an influential cannabis rights activist.

State vs Federal Laws

Despite being legal in many states across the country for medical and/or recreational purposes, marijuana is still unlawful on the federal level. Hemp, by virtue of the 2018 Farm Bill, is lawful on the federal level provided the cannabis plant or product contains less than 0.3% delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis. In some 4/20 friendly places like Colorado and Washington D.C., you can buy cannabis products at a storefront. In other states like Idaho, cannabis is 100% illegal.

This is obviously controversial, as we have fellow countrymen behind bars for the plant and others making billions from it without breaking a single law.

THE FUTURE OF 420

The taboo around cannabis is fading; as legalization expands, prison sentences are being expunged, and weed is becoming normalized. The counterculture aspect might be weaker, but the nostalgia remains. New attitudes and newfound popularity are welcomed because they mean the stigma is shrinking and more people will have access to cannabis. As weed day 2023 approaches, consider and appreciate how far we’ve come as a community.

Ediblocked? Why Don’t Edibles Get Me High!

Edibles are one of the most popular ways to get high because they’re convenient and a discreet way to consume cannabis. Are you that one friend complaining: “Why don’t edibles get me high?” While most people report that cannabis edibles produce a potent and long-lasting high, some people get little or no effect from edibles. Ediblocked is a real thing, but we have gummies that solve this problem, read on to learn more!

If edibles aren’t working for you, don’t give up. In this article, we will discuss a few reasons why you might not be getting the desired effects from edibles and offer some pointers on how you can improve your edible experience.

WHAT ARE CONSIDERED EDIBLES?

Cannabis edibles are food products that contain cannabinoids extracted from hemp or cannabis plants. Some popular forms of cannabis edibles include:

  • brownies, cookies, and baked goods
  • chocolates
  • mints and other hard candies
  • gummies and chews
  • baking and cooking oils
  • drinks

Not only do edibles come in many different forms, they are also made with different cannabinoid combinations and strengths.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CANNABIDIOL (CBD) AND TETRAHYDROCANNABINOL (THC) EDIBLES

CBD and THC are just two of over 100 compounds that have been identified in the cannabis plant. CBD and THC are the two cannabinoids most commonly used in making edibles. Chemically, CBD and THC are very similar but their effects are quite different.

The biggest difference between the two is that THC produces a euphoric high, while CBD can make you feel more relaxed. CBD does not have the same strong psychoactive effects as THC.

CBD

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabinoid found in cannabis and hemp plants. Among the CBD edibles on the market are CBD gummies, CBD drinks, and other CBD baked goods.

Many find CBD edibles useful in promoting relaxation. But as mentioned above, CBD is not psychoactive. If your edibles are not working, check to see if they are made with CBD.

THC

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) produces the cannabis high. THC comes in several isomers, and you can find both delta 8 and Delta 9 THC edibles in the marketplace. Delta 8 THC is legal in many jurisdictions and has effects similar to the more famous delta 9, though slightly less potent. Check out this article to learn more about delta 8 vs delta 9.

HOW DO EDIBLES ACTUALLY WORK?

The edibles you consume must be digested before they start working. During digestion, THC is transformed into 11-Hydroxy THC, which is longer-lasting and more potent than regular THC. How long that will take and how efficiently your edible will be digested depends on how your body processes THC. Several factors can be involved in digesting THC edibles, and each can make the difference between a potent high and a disappointing experience.

How Does The Body Process Edibles?

The body processes edible cannabis by beginning its journey through your belly, then makes its way to your liver before entering your bloodstream and brain. When THC reaches your liver, it is processed into 11-Hydroxy THC which then enters your bloodstream to bind with cannabinoid receptors that are located in your brain and throughout your body. When it activates these receptors, the 11-Hydroxy THC produces a potent edible high.

WHY DON’T EDIBLES GET ME HIGH: 8 REASONS YOUR EDIBLES DON’T WORK

If you have a history of edibles not working, you may or may not be ediblocked. There are several other factors that may be causing your disappointing edible experience. We have listed some below, and provided some solutions that may help you get more enjoyment out of your edibles.

1. Quality

When you are dealing with edibles not working, sometimes the problem lies not with you but with the products you are consuming. Not every company offers good products. If you are shopping for cannabis edibles, you should always look for companies that provide proof of third-party testing. Examining the testing results for a given product will let you know what’s actually contained in the product itself and not just what’s advertised on the product packaging.

MOOD offers third-party DEA testing for each product. Our edibles come with Certificates of Analysis that let you know exactly what is in each product.

Solution

Not all cannabis companies are created equal, so make sure you choose the right one. Don’t be fooled by pretty websites or packaging. Look for complete ingredient lists. Trusted companies like MOOD are transparent with product ingredients so you know exactly what you are getting. You can see reports from many of our satisfied customers via MOOD reviews.

2. Serving Size

Are your edibles not working after 3 hours? Maybe the serving size you’re taking is just too small. Different body weights and body chemistries need different amounts. An amount that may be sufficient for your partner or your friends might not be enough to give you the desired effect.

Solution

If your edibles don’t work, find the amount that works for you, start small and work your way up after 2 hours. Go slow to ensure you don’t end up with an overwhelming bad high.

For more information, consult our THC mg dosage chart.*
*Statements in the dosage chart have not been made or evaluated by a licensed physician. Statements offered on this website have not been evaluated by the FDA and the products offered on the site are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate, or prevent any disease and/or affect any structure or function of the human body.

3. Not Enough Time

When smoking, you can feel the effects of cannabis almost immediately. Edibles take time to kick in. While that time is different for everyone, on average most users report that it takes 1-2 hours to feel the effects of cannabis edibles.

This article will provide some answers to your questions about: How Long Do Edibles Last?

Solution

When taking edibles, not feeling anything immediately is normal. Wait at least 1-2 hours before taking more. Once you know your serving size, you can consume that amount next time. Typically, if you ingest higher amounts of edibles and they do not work after 3 hours, then the serving size is not the problem.

4. You Have a Fast Metabolism

If you find that edibles don’t work for you, then you may have a fast metabolism that breaks down THC quicker than someone with a slow metabolism. Your body may break down edible THC so quickly that it never reaches your bloodstream. Understanding how your body reacts to THC can help you find ways to overcome this issue.

Solution

If your edibles don’t work, you can take a higher serving size, but be careful. Use caution when increasing the amount you consume – consider first trying to take your edibles on an empty stomach. This can allow them to kick in sooner and produce a more intense high.

5. Ediblocked: Edibles Don’t Get Me High – Ever

Recent studies have found that some people are “ediblocked” — they can eat large amounts of cannabis edibles and not feel a thing. Scientists think the reason for edibles not working involves the liver. Dr Staci Gruber, Director of Marijuana Investigations for Neuroscientific Discovery at Mclean Hospital thinks it may just have to do with “how you’re wired”.

Solution

If you’ve been ediblocked, we’ve come up with an ediblocked cure! Our Rapid Onset Delta 9 THC Gummies actually skip the 11-hydroxy transformation and go directly into your bloodstream as opposed to needing to be digested. That means these gummies are more similar to smoking and vaping THC and provide a much different high than regular gummies.
You’re welcome :).

So instead of moving towards Delta 8 Flower, Delta 8 Vapes, or Delta 8 Concentrates, you can enjoy the discretion of gummies and enjoy a classic high at the same time!

Ediblocked gummies for when edibles don't work

Reasons Why Other Forms of Cannabis Work

Even people who complain about edibles not working can get high from other forms of cannabis that don’t need to be digested. Smoked or vaped cannabis goes straight into the bloodstream, so it bypasses any digestion issues. This is how our Rapid Onset Delta 9 THC Gummies work as well – problem solved!

6. Body Weight

If your edibles are not working after 3 hours, the problem may lie with the serving size for your body weight. Different body weights need different amounts to get the same cannabis effects from edibles. If you have a lower body weight, you should start with a lower amount, while higher body weights can start higher.

Solution

Check out our THC mg dosage chart by weight* to get an idea of the ‘ideal’ serving size for your weight. Because body chemistry and cannabis experience also play a role, always start low and gradually work your way up if your edibles are not working.
*Statements in the dosage chart have not been made or evaluated by a licensed physician. Statements offered on this website have not been evaluated by the FDA and the products offered on the site are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate, or prevent any disease and/or affect any structure or function of the human body.

7. Digestive Issues

If you experience edibles not working, it could be that your digestive system is not properly processing fats. THC binds with fats and oils, which is what makes edible cookies and other baked treats so effective. These issues are uncommon, but if you have trouble digesting fats, it’s possible that the THC may be passing through your system undigested.

Solution

Provided that your digestion is otherwise fine, this is probably not your issue, but ask your healthcare provider. If edibles don’t work for you because of fat digestion issues, try non-fat-infused cannabis products like flower, vapes, or concentrates or our Rapid Onset Delta 9 THC Gummies mentioned above.

If you find yourself wondering “Why don’t edibles get me high?”, it could be that you’ve developed a high THC tolerance. If you frequently use cannabis in edibles or other forms, your body will naturally develop a resistance to THC and require larger doses to produce the desired effects.

Solution

In the case that edibles are not working because of your high tolerance, you can take a ‘T break’ to reset your body’s responsiveness to cannabis. This typically takes around 4 weeks, but may cause interrupted sleep patterns and eating habits.

9. Full Stomach

Edibles need to be digested to work, and our body digests food more slowly if our stomach is already full. When you eat edibles on an empty stomach, you will feel the effects harder and faster than if you consume them on a full stomach. Edibles on a full stomach will produce a milder and more delayed experience.

Solution

If you find that edibles are not working for you, try taking them on an empty stomach. They will digest faster and the effects may last longer.

There may be many different answers to the question “Why don’t edibles get me high?” Some people find that edibles have little or no effect no matter how much they take. Are Edibles Legal? Guide to 100% Federally Legal Edibles*

Certain states within the US have legalized cannabis edibles with conditions. Are edibles legal in your state? A quick Google search will answer the question of whether edibles are legal in your state – but be sure to take it all with a grain of salt. Your best bet is to speak to a legal representative in your State. When ordering edibles from Hello MOOD, your order won’t go through if there are legal restrictions where you aim to deliver.

The Federal Farm Bill of 2018 legalizes hemp products that contain less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC by dry weight – which is what many legalized States abide by (but not all). After a quick call to your legal rep for confirmation, look at how you can find 100% Federally legal edibles online below!

*This article is not meant to offer legal advice of any kind. Check with a legal representative in your state for the most accurate and up to date information.

WHAT DO WE MEAN BY EDIBLES ANYWAY?

Cannabinoids, which are chemicals found in the cannabis plant, make up edible cannabis products. When consumed, cannabinoids can have a variety of effects on your mind and body.

The most well-known cannabinoid, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), typically makes an individual euphoric and high. THC is the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis, and in certain quantities can result in a product either being classified as lawful or a Schedule I controlled substance.

Edibles come in a wide variety of flavors and forms. They don’t have to be ‘weed’ based and can contain other cannabinoids like CBD or even Delta-8. These legal edibles* have become more and more popular with people across the country in states that abide by the 2018 Farm Bill. Hemp-derived edibles have increased in popularity since the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, but it is important to note that states across the country have varying laws when it comes to hemp-derived products, including edibles. For this reason, it is imperative to determine the laws of your state before purchasing these products.

*Our edibles can be classified as recreationally legal in many states, but that may not be the case for you. Check with a local legal representative before purchasing any edibles.

Delta 8 vs Delta 9 Edibles

In contrast to delta-9 THC, the most recognized form of tetrahydrocannabinol, delta-8 THC is less psychoactive. Effects are much milder and smoother than delta-9, which is sometimes overwhelming.

The hemp plant produces both delta-8 and delta-9-THC. But because delta-8-THC is produced in much lower quantities than delta-9, it has to be processed from a concentrate. Like delta-9, delta-8 can be smoked or consumed in other forms like gummies, brownies, vaporizers and tinctures.

To create delta-8 edibles, we infuse delta-8 THC in an edible food. Delta-8 edibles prove a popular choice for people who are looking for an enjoyable experience that is less intense and overpowering than delta-9 edibles.

SO, ARE EDIBLES LEGAL?

Yes – edibles are legal in certain states within the United States as long as they have less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC on a dry weight basis. Edibles with less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC — even edibles that can get you “high” — are legal in some states. Check your local laws to ensure that there’s no ban on using delta-8 or other compounds in foods or beverages.

With Hello MOOD you’re in luck! If you’ve been searching online to answer the question: Where are edibles legal, check our MOOD delivery page to see where we ship our 100% Federally legal edibles.

Where are Edibles Legal?

Our edibles are legal in California, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Kansas, Oklahoma, and 39 other states. (Our MOOD delivery page has a complete list, however, there may be other restrictions such as an FDA ban on infusing foods and beverages with delta-8 or delta-9 compounds – to be safe, talk to a legal rep in your state).

You can carry edibles in those states so long as they contain less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC on a dry weight basis.. Anything over that amount is illegal everywhere. The law enforcement varies by jurisdiction and the agencies involved when you get caught with edibles that are Federally illegal.

What Happens If You Get Caught with Edibles that are Legal?

In states where they have legalized food and beverage products infused with THC compounds that contain under 0.3% Delta 9 THC on a dry weight basis, nothing should happen when you’re caught with legal edibles.* But you can still get in trouble with the law if you’re driving while intoxicated, are underage, or are carrying enough legal edibles to be considered trafficking.

*This only applies to states that have legalized food and beverages infused with less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis. Talk to a legal representative in your state to ensure you’re always on the right side of the law where you preside.

Can I Fly with Edibles from a State Where They’re Legal?

Flying with edibles, such as legal THC gummies in your state as described above – shouldn’t get you in any trouble. If they are legal, of course. To be sure, always check with a legal representative in your state. In even those cases, you never want to bring too many edibles on the plane or TSA agents might think that you’re trafficking. Or you could just avoid the risk and order when you get there from our MOOD online dispensary.

You can fly legally with edibles that contain less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC in dry weight

Where are Edibles Illegal?

Where are edibles illegal? Edibles containing less than 0.3% delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis are still illegal in some states. If your edibles contain more than 0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight, they are illegal throughout the United States under federal law. This article wasn’t written by or vetted by a legal representative, so be sure to do your homework.

If your edibles contain more than 0.3% delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis, they are illegal throughout the United States under federal law.

What Happens If You Get Caught with Edibles that are Illegal?

This is a tricky one – every state is different and may or may not abide by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines. Check with a legal rep in your state so you can be 100% sure you’re in the clear. In 2021, the average marijuana trafficking sentence was 30 months. So, unless you’re a licensed seller, you don’t want to get caught selling or get caught shipping edibles.

Can You Go to Jail for Edibles

Depending on the quantity and local laws, you may be facing prison time if you get busted with illegal edibles. What happens if you get caught with edibles that have more than 0.3% delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis is up to the laws in your state, the judge, and any applicable sentencing guidelines. Again – check with your local legal representative!

What About Delta 8 – Are Edibles Legal?

While delta-8 is chemically THC, it’s legally hemp under the 2018 Farm Bill. Because it comes from hemp, products containing delta-8 THC are legal at the federal level so long as they have less than 0.3% delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis. Your state may have a different legal status for delta-8 and your ability to purchase delta-8 edibles will depend on if the FDA in your state has also approved THC infused food and beverages.

Will delta 8 become illegal? We don’t know if the next Farm Bill will include delta 8, but things have been looking up for the cannabis community in recent years.

Can You Get Arrested For Delta-8 Edibles?

If you live in one of the states where Delta-8 edibles are illegal, yes, you can get arrested for delta-8 edibles.

If delta-8 edibles are legal in your state, you may still get arrested for:

  • Carrying cannabis while underage.
  • Are on probation or a bond and were ordered not to possess or consume cannabis.
  • Are driving while impaired on THC, Delta-8, or CBD.
  • Carrying delta-8 or delta-9 edibles that contain over 0.3% Delta 9 THC.

THC edibles are Federally legal if they contain less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC in dry weight

Can I Fly with Delta 8 Edibles?

You can fly with legal edibles so long as:

  • Those edibles contain less than 0.3% delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis
  • You’re not carrying enough edibles to cause suspicion of trafficking.
  • You’re not flying to or from a state where delta-8 edibles are illegal.

To avoid delays and interrogations at the airport, it’s probably best to order when you get to your destination.

WRAPPING UP ‘ARE EDIBLES LEGAL’

We’ve taken a deep dive in exploring the topic: Are edibles legal? What happens if you get caught with edibles will vary depending on the laws and FDA guidelines in your state. Be sure to contact a legal representative in your state for the most accurate and up to date information.

MOOD edibles are legal under federal law and in many states across the country. Our delta-8 edibles have many of the benefits you expect from marijuana edibles, and they’re derived entirely from hemp containing under 0.3% Delta 9 THC on a dry weight basis. We also provide easily accessible information so you can prove that your edibles contain only legal hemp-derived products.

Do Edibles Expire: Everything You Need to Know

Edibles are food products that contain cannabinoids derived from cannabis plants. You can find edibles in just about any form – gummies, baked goods, drinks, candies, and oils for cooking – which raises the question “do edibles expire?”

Shelf life for different edibles will vary depending on several factors we’ll discuss below. Even so, it’s important to know when they expire because the potency of THC changes over time.

This article will address the question ‘do edibles go bad’ and cover how to store edibles to prevent them from spoiling.

WHY DO EDIBLES LOSE POTENCY OVER TIME?

THC does lose potency over time, but edibles maintain their potency longer than THC flower does. Let’s get technical on the why there’s a loss of potency to begin with:

The effects of marijuana that make it special are due to cannabinoids. These are THC, CBD, and over 100 other cannabinoids that are not as widely known. Cannabinoids can be found in the trichomes of a cannabis plant – those sticky little antenna-like structures around the plant.

Due to exposure to light, heat, and humidity, the potency of cannabinoids, particularly THC, can degrade over time as they are constantly exposed to outside elements and are sensitive to moisture.

CAN EDIBLES EXPIRE?

Edibles don’t ‘go bad’ any faster than other food products, they expire at the same rates. Just like any other cookie that’s been sitting in the pantry too long, edibles can get stale or even spoil if stored around heat and moisture. When considering the potential expiration of a given product, think about the types of ingredients used to make the product.

Cookie Case Study: The average cookie is made with flour, sugar, eggs, salt, milk, and butter. If stored correctly at room temperature, you can expect a typical cookie to last about 5 days. So, you can safely assume that a THC infused cookie would last about the same amount of time in similar conditions.

What Happens If You Eat An Expired Edible

As a general rule, we don’t recommend eating any food that you know is expired. It puts you at risk for food poisoning, allergic reactions, or a simple upset stomach.

As far as expired edibles or gummies go, your high will probably be less intense than if you took a new edible with fresh THC. Research finds that THC loses 16% of its THC content after one year of storage. Keep that in mind the next time you find an old stash of gummies.

HOW LONG ARE EDIBLES GOOD FOR

Trying to determine your edible’s shelf life? Let’s get into the factors that determine how long your edible should last.

Ingredients

There’s a reason candies have later expiration dates than cooked foods. They mostly contain sugar, which, on its own, takes years to expire. When you start adding ingredients like flour, milk, or eggs that don’t last as long, you have to take that into consideration.

Using this logic alone, gummies will last a lot longer than baked goods because baked goods can get stale and gummies can’t. If you’ve purchased edibles without preservatives, these probably have a closer expiration date.

Storage Conditions

We recommend storing edibles in a cool, dry place with secure packaging or storage bags. Moisture causes mold, especially when combined with warm temperatures. You should be treating your edibles like your other snacks and eating them before they go bad.

Be sure to store edibles away from the reach of children. In fact, it’s important to store edibles in a way that is clearly identifiable as not being regular snacks, so that even adults can easily identify them. It could be dangerous for someone to unknowingly take an edible – and maybe even consume too much – thinking they’re just snacking.

Processing

Most edibles you buy from a credible business are cooked with pasteurized ingredients and contain some preservatives, even if it’s not much. This guarantees a longer shelf life of edibles compared to homemade goodies.

Think about brownies you make at home compared to ones in the snack aisle. The homemade treats will probably get stale after a week, whereas the store-bought counterpart has to stay fresh long enough to ship to the grocery store and be enjoyed at home for a week or two.

Packaging

If you plan on keeping the edibles longer than a week or two, vacuum-sealed packaging is your best bet for extended freshness. It prevents all moisture and air from getting in and compromising your goods. Once opened, double bag them with as little air in the bag as possible.

Type of Edible

You can use general shelf life guidelines for each type of snack. For example, a THC cookie will likely last as long as a non-THC cookie. Candies will last the longest, and oils for cooking should last as long as other cooking or baking oils. View more of our MOOD edibles, available in both D8 and D9 options!

All that said, keep in mind that the THC content decreases after a few months. It’s best to eat them within a few weeks for maximum potency.

WHEN DO EDIBLES EXPIRE? BREAKING IT DOWN BY TYPE

Before we get into the specifics for each type of edible, there are things they all have in common and here are a few general rules to consider:

The state of the packaging: Damaged or inflated packaging can indicate that the edible has been compromised or has spoiled.
Expiration date: You can generally gauge how old something is by how close it is to the expiration date.

Let’s discuss a few signs that indicate an expiration for each type:

Do Edible Gummies Expire?

Edible gummies can expire just like any old gummy bear. Ask yourself these questions if you’re unsure about your gummies:

  • Have the gummies changed appearance?
  • Are they discolored or hard?
  • Was the packaging secure or damaged?
  • Have you had them for over a year?

If you answered yes to any of the above, think twice before ingesting. Now, they can’t seriously hurt you if they’re expired – but a tummy ache and low effects may be in the cards.
Be sure to check the expiration date, too!

How Soon Do Delta 8 Gummies Expire?

Most gummies last 6 months to a year plus when stored in a cool, dry place. If possible, observe the edible gummies’ expiration date and don’t eat them if they look sketchy. Keep in mind that THC content may decrease after a year, and they might grow less potent over time.

Cereal Bars

Cereal bars should be crispy yet chewy and sweet-tasting. Keep an eye out for funky smells, changes in consistency (loss of softness), or any color changes such as mold.

Beverages

THC-infused beverages are an exciting way to stay refreshed and chill out. If you’re concerned that yours has passed its prime, check for damaged or inflated packaging, color changes, bad smells, and floating chunks. Beverages more so than other edibles should have an expiration printed on the packaging. When in doubt, stick to the expiration date listed!

Delta-9 THC Marsh-Mellow Crisp Treat

Tincture

Because tinctures contain alcohol, their shelf life is usually at least one year. If you’re unsure, check for bad odors, changes in consistency and color, and if the container makes a “puff” sound when you open it, indicating air was built up from fermentation.

Baked Goods

Expired edible desserts have the same indicators as any other baked good. If they’re bad, you’d notice mold growth, changes in color and texture, or a funky smell.

Baked goods usually become stale first, then show signs of becoming rotten after time. Stale foods won’t hurt you, but they don’t taste great. After something’s been stale for long, it starts to go bad.

DO EXPIRED EDIBLES STILL WORK?

The cannabinoid content of edibles lasts longer than the food content. This means you won’t get sick from old cannabinoids, but you may from old food. It’s still possible to get high from old edibles. We don’t recommend taking any chances with expired edibles. When in doubt, play it safe and get some more!

TIPS FOR STORING EDIBLES

Keep Them in a Cool, Dry Place

Sunlight, heat, and moisture accelerate the spoiling process and diminish the shelf life of edibles. Remember not to leave them in the car, where it gets hot exponentially faster than indoors.

Utilize Airtight, Child-lock Containers

Your storage containers should be air-tight and see-through if possible, so you don’t have to open the container to see what’s inside. You can inspect the food without exposing it to unnecessary air particles.

If there are children in the home, child-proof containers are ideal, even if you keep the edibles hidden away. Accidents have been known to happen to even the most careful of people.

Establish a Secret Place

Whether you’re worried about kids, pets, or snooping roommates, picking a designated low-traffic hiding place can be great for peace of mind. We recommend a shoebox in the closet, a locked drawer or cabinet, a safe, or one of those cool, hollowed-out books.

Anywhere discreet and out of reach should work. Remember, this is to protect your goods as well as the people you live with.

Delta-9 THC Apple Struedel Treat

Label and Date Your Edibles

A foolproof way to keep track of the shelf life of edibles is by dating them as soon as you get them. This way, you can avoid the guessing game if your products have missing or rubbed expiration dates. You can also jot down how they made you feel to help your future self decide the best way to take them. MOOD edibles are great for this because we classify our products by the experience. Choose a body-soother, Energized, Euphoric, among many other moods. Our new Morning Delta 9 THC Gummies are a great way to start the day with an energized and euphoric mood.

Don’t Live Alone? Avoid Storing Edibles in the Pantry

This is how accidents happen – someone mistakes edibles for an innocent snack and winds up having to change their afternoon plans. Edibles look like regular food, but a careless peruser probably won’t notice the difference, and you should keep them out of the pantry.

You also probably aren’t reaching for an edible every time you get hungry. The pantry simply isn’t the best place to store your edibles!

Freezing for Longer Storage

Storing them in the freezer is an easy way to boost your edibles’ shelf life. Unlike THC flower, which loses potency when frozen because the crystals fall off, edibles are usually cooked with oil, protecting their composition and strength.

Freeze your baked goods and gummies without a worry that they’ll lose their spark. Remember to pack them in plastic wrap, sealable bags, or vacuum seal wrap to protect them from freezer damage.

Use up Older Edibles First

It’s normal to find a product you love and use it more than the rest. However, if you let your other edibles sit for too long, they could lose potency or go bad altogether. Eating the oldest edibles first avoids waste and clutter, as we often neglect our less-favorite products and leave them sitting. There’s nothing worse than missing out because you waited too long and have expired edibles.

CHOOSE EDIBLES WITH LONG SHELF LIFE

If you know that it will take several weeks to finish your edibles, choose ones with a longer shelf life, like gummies, candies, or shelf-stable beverages. A longer shelf life equals more stock, so you can order larger quantities and get the most bang for your buck!

If you plan to finish them in a week or two, try our Delta 9 THC Chocolate Cookies or Delta 9 THC Chocolate Crunch Treat. Remember, you can always order more and try new products. Keep the edible’s shelf life in mind when planning your fun. All of our products come tagged with an expiration date, be sure to check it before consuming if you’ve had it stored for a while.

HOW TO DISPOSE OF EXPIRED EDIBLES

Hopefully you get to enjoy your treats before they spoil, but in case you forget about them and let them go bad, let’s address what to do.

When throwing away our expired edibles, make sure not to put them anywhere someone else might eat them. Even throwing them in the yard to decompose could put surrounding pets and wildlife at risk. Choose a safe disposal method like a trashcan or compost pile (depending on the type of edible).

Mood gummy edibles - 100% Federally legal

DO EDIBLES EXPIRE SUMMARY

Let’s recap.

The shelf life of edibles is generally the same as their non-infused counterparts. A THC brownie should last as long as a regular brownie, and so on. Regarding THC content, it does lose potency over long periods of time – we’re talking several months to a year. If by some chance your edible hasn’t expired in a year (maybe it’s gummy or candy), then the THC will be a little less potent, but still noticeable.

That said, store edibles in a cool, dry place as you would your regular snacks, to extend their shelf lives as long as possible. Keep track of expiration dates and appearances — most foods look, smell, and feel different once they’ve turned.

Lastly, remember to keep edibles stored separately from other foods to avoid unknown grazers from eating something they shouldn’t.

Delta 8 Prices: How Much Should They Be?

Since the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill which legalized hemp products, Delta 8 has become increasingly popular. But delta 8 prices can vary widely between different products and brands, so it can be difficult to answer the question “how much does delta 8 cost?”

To help cut through the confusion, here’s some info on the various delta 8 costs.

WHAT IS DELTA 8 ANYWAY?

Delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-8 THC), is a psychoactive substance found in the Cannabis sativa plant. Delta-8 is chemically very similar to delta-9-THC, marijuana’s main psychoactive ingredient, but is slightly less potent and less likely to become overwhelming.

Delta 8 is found in both marijuana and hemp. Although legal in many states, marijuana remains illegal under the federal Controlled Substances Act. But hemp products, including delta 8 products, are federally legal so long as they contain less than 0.3% delta-9-THC.

HOW MUCH DOES DELTA 8 COST?

Several different factors can determine delta 8 cost. The type of product, the quality, and where you’re buying your delta 8 products all play a role in delta 8 prices.

While marijuana prices are typically calculated in grams, delta 8 products are typically priced by the product’s concentration of delta 8.

Product Type

Delta 8 is offered in different forms, like carts, gummies, and flower. Some of these products take more time to make than others, and the delta 8 concentration can vary between different products and brands. Generally, complicated product production and higher concentration equate to higher delta 8 prices.

Quality

As with most things, quality plays an important role in delta 8 cost. Generally, higher-quality delta 8 products come at a higher price because people are willing to pay more for better delta 8. Cheap delta 8 products that do not have certificates of analysis may contain unwanted byproducts or other issues.

Location

Shipping time also affects delta 8 cost and is determined by location. Local shops may sell delta 8 products for higher prices than online shops. This is due to increased overhead for storefront rental, fixtures, and other costs – especially if they are the only delta 8 store in town and have no competition.

Packaging

Higher-end materials will increase the cost of certain products. While you can’t always judge a book by its cover, companies that cut corners on packaging typically pay less attention to product quality. With products like carts and vapes, better packaging can mean the difference between authentic and counterfeit products, so a higher delta 8 THC cost may be worth it.

Delta 8 flower

Support

Some brands, like MOOD, have great customer service which adds to brand value and is factored into their delta 8 cost.

Physical shop overhead tends to be higher than online retailers for obvious reasons. Training employees about delta 8 so they can make informed suggestions takes time and can play a role in the price as well.

Concentration

Delta 8 naturally occurs in very low amounts, so delta 8 must be synthesized from CBD and then added to the flower, vapes, edibles or other delta 8 product. This process is costly and cutting corners can lead to an inferior or dangerous product.

The higher the concentration of delta 8 in a product the more potent the effects of delta 8 will be and the higher the delta 8 cost.

ARE DELTA 8 PRICES WORTH IT?

Delta 8 THC offers similar effects to delta 9 with less of the associated side effects. Delta 8 prices are generally cheaper than the cost of marijuana, and delta 8 is available in many states where medical and recreational cannabis are still illegal.

Legal Weed

Delta 8 is federally recognized as a legal hemp product under the 2018 Farm Bill so long as it is made from hemp containing less than 0.3% THC. You can purchase delta 8 in stores or online instead of the black market, which means lower delta 8 THC prices.

Delta 8 THC is sold legally in the majority of states. MOOD ships delta 8 products throughout the USA with the exception of Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Colorado, North Dakota, and Vermont.

Flying With Edibles 2023: Can You Bring Edibles on a Plane?*

The cannabis edibles market has been growing by leaps and bounds in the US. Many people use edibles for relaxation and recreation, and some people have been prescribed cannabis edibles for medical conditions. Because they have become so popular, many now question if flying with edibles is legal and whether or not it’s worth it. Can you bring edibles on a plane without getting into trouble with airport security?

According to the TSA, flying with edibles is legal if certain conditions are met – let’s jump into the nitty-gritty so you can ensure you’re taking all precautions before hopping on a plane.

What Are Considered Edibles

Edibles are cannabis products that can be consumed by eating or drinking. Typically, edibles come in the form of:

  • Baked goods
  • Candy or chocolate
  • Gummies
  • Drinks
  • Capsules
  • Tinctures

MOOD edibles include Crispy Cereal Treats, Chocolate Chip Cookies, Gel Caps, Gummies, and Tinctures.

Where You Can Fly With Edibles

Can You Fly With Edibles Domestically?

Flying with edibles depends on the type and concentration. TSA guidelines state that cannabis infused products with less than 0.3% THC in dry weight are permissible. The great news is – all MOOD products follow these federal guidelines. So, before bringing edibles on a plane, ensure that the state you’re traveling from and the state in which you land both allow for cannabis products containing less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis.

TSA Rules for Flying with Edibles

Can You Take Edibles on a Plane Internationally?

Be very careful when taking edibles on a plane to an international destination. Even if your landed destination has legalized cannabis – they may have strict laws against flying in with it.

Canada is a great example of this – although you can legally purchase cannabis products across the country, they have strict laws against transportation. Their website states that any form or amount of cannabis must be declared and is illegal to enter or leave the country in any form – including marijuana edibles and CBD. If you try to enter the country without declaring your cannabis product, it’s considered a serious criminal offense.

Although not an edible, we all know the case of Brittney Griner who was detained in Russia for carrying hash oil cartridges in her luggage at Moscow airport – don’t be Brittney Griner!

What About My Airline?

TSA’s website states that flying with cannabis derived edibles that contain less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis is lawful. But what about your airline? Are they bound by the TSA’s guidelines?

Technically, no. One example of an airline refusing legal marijuana products is American Airlines. The screenshot below from their website states that they refuse to admit marijuana products onto their flights. Their information in accordance with federal law is either outdated or does not take into account the legalization of hemp derived products with less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC in a dry weight basis.

For reference, airline employees don’t check your baggage – TSA does. However, you might want to check with your airline before boarding to avoid any issues and perhaps choose one that follows the guidelines set forth in the 2018 Farm Bill.

What About Cannabidiol (CBD)?

You can travel with CBD or bring CBD edibles on a plane if you are flying within or between states or countries that permit these products – and there’s less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC on a dry weight basis. As a word of warning, prior to booking travel it is wise to learn the laws of each state or country in which you will be traveling.

A TSA agent has no way of knowing at a glance that your CBD product contains less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC. So, if you want to fly with CBD products your best bet is to travel with unopened products that have proof of official testing on the label or print out a copy of the official tests before boarding. At MOOD, we provide a QR code on packaging that leads to the proof you need to bypass security.

Can You Travel with Edibles made with CBD Internationally?

When boarding a flight in the US, flying internationally with edibles containing cannabis or other cannabis products with less than 0.3% Delta-9 on a dry weight basis will depend on where you intent to land. Be sure to research the laws of your destination country and be advised CBD laws are not concrete as per the time of writing this article. Speak to a local legal entity of your desired destination before trying to board an international flight.

How to Fly With Edibles: Bringing Edibles on Plane Legally

How to travel with edibles legally includes making sure your product contains less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC on a dry weight basis. However, TSA won’t just take your word for it – you have to provide ample evidence that this is the case. Here’s how to bring edibles on a plane legally:

Packaging

Keep all your edibles in their original packaging. Make sure that it clearly states the ingredients and legal requirements. Also, try your best to leave the packaging sealed so TSA officers don’t feel it necessary to further question the contents of your edibles.

How MOOD Packaging Helps

We make flying with edibles super easy by placing a QR code on all our packaged products. By simply scanning this QR code, TSA officers are able to see our 3rd party lab test results showing your product is within the legal requirements to fly with edibles.

THC Limits

As previously mentioned, flying with edibles with less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC on a dry weight basis is legal – so long as it doesn’t contain any other illegal substances such as THC-O. If you can prove the THC content of your product, you’re not showing signs of intention to traffic, and your to and from destinations have legalized cannabis – you should be good to board!

MOOD Products

Buying Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC products from a reputable source is important for several reasons:

  1. You have to be able to trust the product you consume
  2. You have to ensure the THC content is within the legal limit.

At MOOD, we ensure the quality and legality of our products with 3rd party lab test results. The QR code on our packaging mentioned above directly links to these tests which can also be found on our Certificates of Analysis page. We work with small family run farms and each batch is quality tested to ensure your safety from a health and legal perspective. Check out MOOD reviews to see what our clients are saying about our products.

How Much is Too Much?

If you carry too many edibles on a plane, you might be at risk of being accused of trafficking. Use common sense when determining how many packages of edibles on a plane you want to take.

MOOD Delivers

When flying with edibles to a destination where hemp-derived products are lawful, you can save yourself a lot of trouble! Why bother packing more product when you can just order it in? Check out our MOOD delivery page to see if we deliver to your destination state.

More About Flying with Edibles

Can I Eat an Edible Before Getting on a Plane?

Consuming edibles before boarding flights is not prohibited. But it is best to consume in moderation. Should you show signs of intoxication, airports can ask you for a drug test. (And if you’re wondering “do edibles show up in drug tests,” the answer is yes). They are also more likely to check your baggage to see if you are flying with edibles. And if you appear too intoxicated, airport security can prevent you from boarding.

Should You Keep Edibles in Checked Bags?

You can! The 2018 Farm Bill distinguished lawful hemp from unlawful marijuana on the basis of the Delta-9 THC content. Specifically, any Cannabis sativa L. containing less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis is lawful hemp, anything exceeding that threshold is unlawful marijuana and a Schedule I controlled substance. Provided the airline allows it, traveling with hemp-derived edibles in a checked bag is lawful. This is only true if you are traveling between states with that have legalized hemp products with less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis.

Just be sure you follow the protocol mentioned above like MOOD’s sealed packaging with QR codes to 3rd party tests, stay within the legal limit of THC (all our products follow this!), and don’t take enough with you for it to be considered trafficking.

How Edibles Look on an Airport Scanner

Edibles on a plane scanner just look like regular food. Edibles will show up as orange on the scanner to indicate organic material, which may trigger a search as explosives also show up as orange on the screen. An agent cannot tell whether edibles contain cannabis on a screen, but may be able to recognize cannabis products by their distinctive odor.

MOOD Delta-9 THC Apple Struedel Treat

Can Drug Dogs Smell Edible Gummies at the Airport?

Yes, it is possible for drug dogs to detect edible gummies if they are trained to alert on the scent of cannabis. Since edibles on a plane are legal under the limit of 0.3% Delta 9 THC on a dry weight basis within certain States – don’t let this intimidate you if you’re following the rules!

If You Have to Carry Edibles on a Plane for Medical Reasons

TSA in states that have legalized cannabis products with less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC on a dry weight basis allow passengers flying with edibles for medicinal purposes and recreational purposes. Edibles with less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC on a dry weight basis is legal under many state laws which in turn have legalized bringing edibles on a plane. For example, edibles are legal in New York state. If you can show a medical marijuana prescription and/or have proof you’re carrying cannabis within those restrictions, TSA personnel shouldn’t have an issue if they find edibles in your luggage. Be sure to also check that your airline follows these guidelines as well!

What Happens if You Get Caught With Edibles at Airport Security

The answer to “What happens if I get caught with edibles at the airport?” depends on whether your state allows traveling with edibles.

If TSA identifies cannabis products with more than 0.3% Delta 9 THC on a dry weight basis, 1 of 3 scenarios can happen:

Scenario 1: They Might Let You Get Away with It

The TSA is more interested in items that could potentially threaten the safety of other passengers, like weapons or explosives, than they are in you bringing edibles on a plane. If you do not have a criminal record and remain polite and reasonable with the TSA personnel, they might wave you and any illegal edibles through. A quick reminder that edibles with less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC on a dry weight basis are legal in most states – and that we don’t condone carrying illegal edibles at any time, not just while boarding a plane!

Here is a story from someone who was stopped by TSA for edibles and got away without confiscation or charges. TSA personnel may look the other way over a small quantity of illegal THC content, but this is not guaranteed..

Scenario 2: They Will Confiscate the Edibles Then Let You Go

If marijuana is legal in the state you are flying from, the TSA can confiscate your edibles if you cannot show evidence that they contain less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC on a dry weight basis, or if they refuse to accept your evidence. This is an enormous inconvenience and reason enough to avoid flying with edibles. That’s why at MOOD, we make it easy with a QR code that shows lab test results for each product!

Scenario 3: They Will Let the Authorities Handle It

If you are carrying a large quantity of edibles, if TSA agents cannot determine the amount of THC in the products you are carrying, or if you are not of legal age to possess edibles, TSA officials may contact local authorities for further investigation. This means that at best you will miss your fight and may well be charged with a felony.

Red flags that might prompt an in-depth search and a call to state police when flying with edibles include looking nervous or intoxicated or having enough items for a suspicion of trafficking.

Here’s a video of a passenger getting escorted for carrying too many edibles at the Los Angeles airport.

Be sure to fly with unopened packages that give quick access to their legality – like MOOD’s QR code on all products. Check to make sure your state is covered under the 2018 Farm Bill and think twice before bringing edibles on a plane crossing international borders. Bring as small a quantity as possible so as not to trigger concerns that you are trafficking in controlled substances. Purchase products from a reputable source, like MOOD, where you can actively show TSA officers the contents of your edibles via a QR code.

Taking cannabis-related products with more than the allowed percentage of THC on a flight is unwise and carries risks. The best way to stay out of trouble is to carry legal amounts in small quantities from reputable sources.

How Long Do Edibles Last: Gummies, Cookies & Cereal Bars

Edibles are popular in the world of cannabis consumption for a reason. Not only do they offer you a straightforward way to get high, but also a broad array of tasty snacks to explore when doing so. But how long do edibles last, and how can you make sure that your first experience with them is enjoyable? We’ll answer both those questions and many more in this article.

HOW LONG DO EDIBLES LAST FOR? ORAL VS SUBLINGUAL

How long edibles last for depends on what type of edible you are taking. Oral and sublingual absorption of THC results in different peaks, strengths, and duration of effects.

Oral Absorption: Baked Goods, Chocolate, Gummies

When you consume a cannabis edible, the THC goes through your digestive system and passes through your liver. As THC is metabolized, it is converted into 11-OH-THC, which is 4-5 times more potent. This is why edibles duration is longer and the high more powerful. But because you must first digest the edible, it takes longer to feel the effects and peaks. Some THC edibles available on the market include baked goods, gummies, and chocolates.

Sublingual Absorption: Hard Candies, Mints, Lollipops

THC sublingual absorption happens under your tongue. The THC soaks through the blood vessels in your mouth and from there travels to your brain and throughout your body. You will feel the high faster from sublingual THC than you will feel a THC edible peak. But this high will be much shorter than the edibles duration. THC sublingual products available on the market include THC tinctures, sprays, candies, lollipops, and dissolving tablets.

HOW LONG DO EDIBLES LAST IN YOUR SYSTEM?

How long edibles last in your system depends on the amount consumed and how frequently you use edibles. Generally, edibles remain in your system for 3-12 days, considerably longer than smoking. If you are subject to drug tests, be advised that traces of THC from edibles can be detected in your hair for up to 90 days. Our blog has an article that answers the question in more detail: How Long Does Delta 8 Stay in Your System?

How Long Do Edibles Last in Bloodstream?

As already mentioned, edibles have a delayed effect due to the time it takes for the body to absorb their compounds. You’ll usually need to wait at least one hour before feeling anything, and up to two hours for it to reach your bloodstream. After that, the edible will remain in your system for about 24 hours and detectable on a drug test for three to 12 days.

How Long Do Edibles Stay In Your Saliva?

While saliva tests are less effective for edibles than smoked THC, you should assume that you may test positive on a saliva THC test for 24-72 hours after use.

How Long Do Edibles Last in Urine?

Urine or sweat tests can detect THC from edibles within 3-30 days after usage, depending on how much THC you ate and how regularly you consume THC edibles.

How Long Do Edibles Stay In Your Hair?

Hair tests can detect traces of THC in your hair follicles for up to 90 days and possibly longer if you regularly eat THC edibles.

DO EDIBLES SHOW UP ON A DRUG TEST?

Yes, edibles do show up on drug tests. Being infused with the same high-inducing compound as delta-9, THC edibles are detectable in the same way as smoking and vaping cannabis. If you’re expecting to take a drug test in the near future, the best way to prevent a positive result is to simply abstain from edibles until the test has been taken.

KICKING IN & EFFECTS

How Long Do Edibles Take To Kick In?

Edibles can take up to several hours to kick in. When you consume edibles, the THC must first be absorbed in your digestive system and processed by your liver before you begin feeling effects.

How Long Do the Effects of Edibles Last?

Generally, they’ll last anywhere between six and eight hours – sometimes more. The length of time the effects of edibles will last can depend on the specific type you’ve ingested. It all has to do with the body’s digestion process – the sooner something breaks down and is absorbed into your system, the quicker the effects will wear off. Below are the major factors influencing an edibles duration of effects as well as how quickly they kick in:

Form of Edibles

The first deciding factor to how long edibles last is the type of edible you’ve consumed. Absorption happens at different speeds throughout the body, with THC being more quickly processed through areas like mucus membranes in the mouth. That’s why cannabis-infused hard candies and gums take effect more quickly than other edibles, such as cookies or cereal bars, which rely on digestion in the stomach to release THC compounds. Most edibles are composed of cannabis-infused oil or butter, as well as other ingredients like sugar and flour. These ingredients all have different effects on the body’s digestion process, which is why it can be difficult to pinpoint exactly how long a particular edible will last.

How Potent the Product is

Like other forms of cannabis, potency plays a role in THC gummy duration. Edibles made with more concentrated cannabis will have a longer-lasting effect than those with less. It’s important to know the strength of your edibles before taking them, so that you can accurately gauge how much to take and how hard it’s going to hit you.

how long do the effects of gummies last

Your Metabolism

This goes back to the process through which edibles are absorbed. Your metabolism is what’s responsible for breaking down the food and water that enters your system. How long edibles last depends on how fast your metabolism can process and balance what enters your system. Everyone’s metabolism is different, and it can have an effect on how quickly THC compounds are released. People with faster metabolism will process edibles faster, meaning the effects of edibles won’t last as long compared to someone with a slower metabolism.

How Much Food You Have in Your Stomach

When you eat something, it doesn’t just go straight through your bowels. Your stomach needs to break it down into smaller particles (and absorb nutrients) before sending it on its way. This means that you’re less likely to feel the effects of an edible if you’ve recently eaten a large meal.

On the other hand, if you have an empty stomach, THC can kick in quicker. You’ll experience an earlier, longer edible peak as there’s nothing to slow down the absorption process.

Your Body Composition

Body weight is another influencing factor in how long edibles last. THC is lipophilic, meaning it has an affinity for fat cells. If you have more fat cells in your body, then it’s likely the compound will take longer to be absorbed and you’ll feel its effects more slowly. Conversely, if you have a lower body fat percentage then the compound is likely to be absorbed faster, and the effects will kick in quicker. Further, those with a higher body mass are likely to store more THC in their fat cells, resulting in a longer-lasting high.

Tolerance

The duration of the high will also depend on your body’s tolerance to the compound. If you have no prior experience with THC, then its effects may kick in quicker and be more intense. However, if you’re used to using THC products regularly then you may need to take more of it each time in order to feel its effects.

NEWBIES: HOW LONG DOES AN EDIBLE LAST FOR THE FIRST TIME?

Edibles duration depends on many factors, but one of the most important is how experienced you are with THC. A person who rarely or never consumes THC is likely to have a longer experience with a given dosage than somebody who consumes THC edibles regularly.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF EDIBLES

Gummies

Gummies are worth shining a spotlight on when it comes to edibles. These candies are incredibly tasty and easy to take, not to mention fast-acting.

How Long for Gummies to Kick in

It will usually take between 60 and 120 minutes for your body to begin to digest and absorb the compounds of an edible, and for any gummy effects to start taking place. However, you will likely peak within 2-3 hours, depending on your body type and metabolism. Again, activation time depends on many factors and can vary from person to person.

How Long Do Gummy Edibles Last?

Generally, the effects of gummies will last anywhere from 4-8 hours. That includes the onset of effects, peak, and duration at which they fade. However, the effects can be felt for up to 12 hours in some cases. It’s best to start with a small dose and gradually increase it until you find the right amount for your own tolerance.

Do Delta 8 Gummies Work?

Delta 8 gummies are one of the most popular forms of delta 8 edibles. Our Delta 8 gummies review provides more information on mood-related effects at different doses.

Low Dose(15 mg)
Delta 8 gummy effects at 15 mg are mild and unlikely to become overwhelming. If you consume a 15 mg delta 8 gummy, you can expect a nice, balanced, fun buzz. People with a THC tolerance may find this dose underwhelming, but give them time to take effect before redosing.

Medium Dose (25 mg)

At 25 mg, the delta 8 gummies effect is a balanced and clear-headed high that is relaxing but still allows you to stay sharp and focused. This dosage can feel uncomfortably potent to some people, so it is best for edible newbies to start with a smaller dosage, like our 25mg Delta 8 gummies.

High Dose (50 mg)

A 50 mg dose of delta 8 gummies is recommended only for experienced stoners and regular users of edibles. The delta 8 gummies effect at this potency is a strong, sweet, long-lasting Delta-8 high that may be too much for those who are not accustomed to THC’s psychoactive effects.

How Long for Delta 8 Gummies to Kick In

Because they must first be digested, it typically takes 60 – 120 minutes before delta 8 gummies kick in. Depending on the dosage, your tolerance, and other variables, the delta 8 gummy duration of effects will generally range between 6 to 12 hours.

Edible Gummies to Try

If this is your first time, look for Delta 8 gummies with a milder, more euphoric effect without the anxious paranoia associated with Delta 9 THC. Among the cannabinoids, you’ll generally notice the distinctive delta 8 gummy effects of relaxation, mood elevation, and soothing feelings after ingesting this edible.

Delta 8 Gummies

Our Micro-Dose Delta-8 THC Gummies are great for beginners – they’re also vegan, non-GMO, gluten-free and low in sugar. And if you’re interested in something stronger, we also offer 50mg Delta 8 Gummies, infused with both 50mg of Delta-8 THC and 50mg of CBD.

Delta 9 Gummies

If you’re looking for more potent edibles, try our Sleepytime Delta-9 THC Gummies for relaxation or our 15mg Delta 9 Gummies for a wide range of mood-related effects.

Gummies Side Effects

These are usually consistent with other forms of cannabis and can include dry mouth. Other, more rare effects include:

  • Trouble concentrating
  • Coordination issues
  • Slowed reaction time
  • Memory problems
  • Dizziness

Gummies will get you high and it’s easy to take more than you need. Moreover, keep in mind that THC gummies look and taste just like regular candy, so make sure to store them in a safe place, away from children and pets.

How Long Do Edibles Last in Cookie form?

Gummies aren’t the only treat worth noting when it comes to edibles. Cookies are also very popular, as they’re great for a range of occasions and available in practically every variety. Let’s explore what you can expect about cookie edibles duration and Effects.

How Long Does It Take Cookies to Work?

Cookies usually take a minimum of two hours before having any effect. Just like with gummies, the exact amount of time to get high after taking a cookie depends on your individual body chemistry.

How to Make Cookies Kick in Faster

Again, your body chemistry plays a big role in how quickly cookies kick in, so it’s hard to give exact advice. However, if you are keen to get the effects quickly and you’re a seasoned THC user, eat your cookies on an empty stomach. That way, your body won’t be working through food before it absorbs the THC.

How Long Does THC from Cookies Stay In Your System?

THC in cookies can be expected to stay in your system for one to three days after consumption.

Cookies Effects

Similar to other edibles, cookies bring a mild but long-lasting sense of relaxation and euphoria, as well as heightened focus. Also, cookies generally have the same side effects as gummies and other forms of edibles. If you take too much, more severe side effects may include:

  • Agitation
  • Paranoia
  • Memory loss

It’s important to be very well aware of edible cookies’ effects, especially if you’re new to edibles. Keep track of your experience and note down which side effects you felt after a session to increase your awareness around how your body responds.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR BEFORE BUYING EDIBLES

When it comes to buying edibles, it’s important to take your time and do your research to ensure you get the most for your time and money. Online retailers are a great place to look, as we tend to have more options and flavors than conventional dispensaries. Our customers love our transparency – we cover everything you need to know about a product’s potency, origin and testing – right here on our website.

To help you out, we’ve compiled a list of things to look for before making a purchase:

Third Party Testing

Third party testing is a must when it comes to edibles. This ensures the product is safe to consume and the THC content matches what’s written on the label. Companies that don’t do third party testing can’t guarantee their products are safe and accurate, which is why we upload Certificates of Analysis for each product listed on our website.

Product Strength

We’ve covered how long edibles last after consumption and the factors that dictate the experience. Our insights into product strength give you a starting point with typical expectations so you can make an informed decision. A good rule of thumb is always to start with 10mg and work your way up from there.

FAQ

How do you create the different moods?

We hand-select cannabis strains for their degrees of varying cannabinoids and terpene profiles. We then enhance these naturally occurring profiles by adding additional cannabinoids and terpenes to further promote a given mood.

Do you third-party test your products?

All of our products undergo 3rd party testing in DEA-registered labs.

Will this show up on a drug test?

Our products will cause you to test positive for THC. We recommend not using them if you are required to pass a drug test for marijuana.

Does this feel like marijuana?

Many people think so! Delta-8 THC is a cannabinoid naturally expressed in the cannabis plant. It has many of the same effects of its more well-known (and more potent) cousin cannabinoid, Delta-9 THC. However, many users of Delta-8 report it to be a milder version of Delta-9 THC, and with less psychoactive effects. The result is a cannabinoid that still provides mood altering properties without giving its user a feeling of being overwhelmed.
