TYPES OF DELTA 8 CONCENTRATES

Cannabis concentrates, also known as dabs, are concentrated hash oil with high levels of THC. They’re usually a thick, gooey substance that smells a bit like cannabis.

Using special bongs, cannabis concentrates are heated, and the vapor is inhaled. Ingesting this way results in a fast-acting, intense high that doesn’t last as long as traditional smoking methods. Another method is to put the concentrate into a “cart” that’s used in vape pens to be heated and inhaled.

Delta 8 Hash

Hash is a centuries-old cannabis product originating in ancient Afghanistan. It was initially cultivated by rubbing marijuana plants together and collecting the trichomes that fall below. Nowadays, it’s collected on a larger scale, where the plant’s resin is separated and compressed into dense blocks.

Delta 8 hash, like Delta 9 hash, contains full-spectrum cannabinoids like terpenes, flavonoids, and CBD. Like other cannabis concentrates, hash usually has higher THC and CBD levels than flower.

Hot to use it

  • Roll it: Roll Delta 8 hash into a long, tube-like shape and put it in a joint.
  • Glassware: Sprinkle a bit of hash on top of the flower in a bong or bubbler. This keeps the has from falling through any holes and going to waste.
  • Dab Rig: Heat the end of a dab rig (the banger) with a blow torch for a few seconds. It needs to be really hot to melt the hash. Put a bit of the hash on the hot part and cover it with a carb cap. Pull and inhale the vapor.

Why we love it

Hash is a lot stronger than flower, so you don’t need as much to have the same effect. It’s the oldest of the Delta 8 concentrates, with origins dating back thousands of years. One cool thing about hash is that it maintains the strain characteristics of its parent plant, so hash from an Indica plant and Sativa plant will deliver very different highs.

Delta 8 Wax

Wax is another type of cannabis concentrate. The flowers are first dried and cured for preservation. They’re then put into a butane extraction chamber that separates the THC from the rest of the plant. The remaining THC is put through a vacuuming process to remove the excess solvent, leaving just the THC wax behind.

Wax THC ranges from 60-80% potency. It’s a light yellowing tan color and is easily pliable, making smoking wax easier than the other concentrates.

Hot to use it

Wax is almost always smoked using a dab rig.

  • Make sure there’s water in the dab rig.
  • Put a small ball of wax on the nail.
  • Heat the rig’s banger with a torch until it’s very hot.
  • Touch the nail to the banger and inhale the vapors.

Delta 8 wax is highly concentrated Delta 8 THC, so the high comes quickly and intensely. You don’t need much at all to feel the same effects as from flower cannabis.

Why we love it

Wax THC is just as potent as other concentrates but has the best texture for manipulation. Whereas shatter and crumble are difficult to handle, wax will easily stick to the nail without causing a mess or getting stuck under your fingernails.

Delta 8 Shatter

Shatter is named after its brittle consistency – also known as dab badder. A sheet of shatter will break into a bunch of small pieces, like glass.

Delta 8 shatter is made similarly to wax. Butane is used to isolate the trichomes and then removed to produce a fine sheet of concentrated THC, or sugar shatter.

Shatter has a smooth, glassy appearance and the color of dark honey. It’s possible to create Delta 8 dabs using concentrates like shatter.

Hot to use it

When working with cannabis concentrates like badder dab, a little goes a long way. They’re much more potent than the marijuana flower itself, so start small.

Knife hits:

  • Get two butter knives (preferably with heat-proof handles) and ready your shatter nearby.
  • Heat the tips of the knives with a torch for a few seconds.
  • Turn off the torch and place the Delta 8 shatter onto one knife tip. Close the second knife onto the shatter and inhale using a straw or paper towel tube.

Why we love it

Because of its solid chemical structure, shatter lasts longer than other concentrates without losing potency. It has a longer shelf life than wax, so we can expect shatter that’s been sitting around longer to be more potent and deliver stronger highs than wax of the same age.

Delta 8 Oil

Delta 8 THC oil doesn’t have to be smoked or vaporized. It’s in a simple oil dropper from which you drop some under your tongue and swallow.

Most THC oils contain full-spectrum cannabinoids, meaning they maintain the other naturally occurring compounds like flavonoids, terpenes, and CBD. Together, the cannabinoids deliver a wider range of benefits than any one does on its own.

With sublingual administration, THC is absorbed directly through the mucous membranes of the tongue. It kicks in faster since there’s no need to wait for digestion.

Hot to use it

Oil drops are intended to be left in the mouth for around 2 minutes so that the blood vessels can absorb them before you swallow. Swallowing it immediately is essentially like taking an edible, and the effects and high will be similar. There’s nothing technically wrong with this, but you’d be missing out on extra benefits by skipping the first step. You can also put the Delta 8 oil in a drink or smoothie for an edible experience.

Why we love it

With Delta 8 THC oil, consumers can measure out their intended dose to have more control over the experience. Other cannabis concentrates don’t allow for this type of measurement, and dosage is usually a ballpark guess.

THC oil also sidesteps the carcinogens that smoking introduces. Inhaling smoke is tough on the lungs over time. Pure THC oil is a “clean” way to enjoy cannabis without putting the lungs at risk.

Delta 8 Resin

Delta 8 live resin is a truly special product. Unlike other concentrates that use dried flowers, live resin comes from – you guessed it – live plants.

While the plants are still alive, they’re flash-frozen to make it easier to collect the trichomes. These trichomes maintain arguably more powerful and fruity characteristics since the plant wasn’t still alive during the process. Drying and curing do a lot of damage to cannabinoids like terpenes. Live resin avoids that deterioration and keeps them intact.

Hot to use it

Live resin can be smoked or vaporized like other concentrates. Bongs, dab rigs, hot knives, or vaporizers work just fine.

If you want to mix it up, you can put a small bit of Delta 8 resin into a joint or sprinkle some on top of your bowl pack.

Why we love it

Live resin is way higher in flavonoids and terpenes than other Delta 8 concentrates. Terpenes play a big part in each strain’s smell, taste, and health benefits. The gentle cultivation process means live resin keeps the same flavor and high as its parent plant.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are Delta 8 Concentrates Any Good?

Delta 8 concentrates are hard-hitting and fast-acting, just like the Delta 9 dabs you’re familiar with. Wax is one of the most potent Delta 8 products you can get your hands on. Delta 8 oil is a great way to deliver a strong head high without running the risk of getting in trouble.

How Much THC is in Hash?

Hash is much stronger than the cannabis flower. Whereas the flower has 15-25% THC, hash contains 20-60%. This means that hash is more potent and delivers more intense highs when smoked. Though flower is the more popular method of taking THC, it’s actually less concentrated than other forms.

How to Use Cannabis Concentrates

Cannabis concentrates like resin, live resin, wax, shatter, oil, and hash contain far more THC than flower.

  • TCH oil is dropped under the tongue and swallowed after 1-2 minutes. You can also put it in beverages.
  • Resin, wax, hash, and shatter can be smoked using a dab rig, joint, or bowl.
  • Start small when smoking wax. It’s much stronger than pot; you only need a small amount to feel the same effects.

What is Delta 8 Resin?

Delta 8 resin is a cannabis concentrate derived from hemp plants with Delta 8 molecules. Resins are the thick wax that remains after extracting THC using a solvent. Delta 8 live resin consists of trichomes collected from living cannabis plants. Live resin maintains more of the plant’s original cannabinoids that are damaged during the drying and curing process.

Is Cannabis Wax the Same as Dabs?

Cannabis wax, AKA dabs, is butane hash oil (BHO) with a highly-potent amount of THC. There are different types of cannabis concentrated, including hash, sugar wax, THC oil, and shatter.

What’s the Difference Between Cannabis Wax and Delta 8 Shatter?

Delta 8 wax is more malleable and easier to manipulate. Shatter has a longer shelf-life but is a bit harder to handle. Both are types of Delta 8 concentrate with highly potent THC levels.
